Hey friends! Having spent years working with expecting mamas and going through pregnancy myself three times in the last six years, I’m pretty familiar with the whole experience. When it comes to planning your maternity portrait session, I’ve got a few tips and tricks up my sleeve that I’d love to share with you!
Expect a bit of walking during the session, especially if it’s outdoors. Make sure your footwear can handle sand, dirt, rocks, and whatever else your chosen location throws at you. Keep your session location in mind as you pick your kicks.
Opt for something that flatters your body during this special season. For example, if you’re not a fan of your arms, go for a long-sleeve option. Feeling a bit body-conscious? Flowy dresses are always a win! And remember, pick something with a bit of stretch. Your belly will grow between the dress fitting and the session, so a little give is key.
Aim for around 30 weeks when scheduling your maternity session. You don’t have to be bursting at the seams to capture this beautiful season. At 30 weeks, your belly will be popping, and you’ll definitely look pregnant. Plus, you’ll be more mobile and a bit less swollen than you might be closer to your due date. This timing also allows for your ordering appointment and getting your artwork back before baby arrives.
This session is a celebration of the sweet season of pregnancy as you eagerly anticipate holding your precious baby. Invest in hair and makeup services so you can look and feel your best! Knowing you won’t have to stress about a bad hair day or perfect makeup makes for a more enjoyable session.
I hope this list comes in handy as you plan your maternity session! If you’re in need of a maternity photographer, CLICK HERE to get in touch with me. Can’t wait to hear from you!
