3 Things I Wish I Knew About Having Multiple Kids

Family

Hi there, friends! Many of you know I’m a mother to three, currently ages 1, 4, and 6. Time has flown by, and it doesn’t feel that long ago that I was growing my family. When I think back now, I can recall a few things that have been game-changers for me in having multiple kids. If you’re thinking about having multiple kids, read on, and I hope you find a note or two helpful! 😊

1. THEY PLAY WITH EACH OTHER! 🙌

If you’re a mom with just one little one right now, you know the struggle – they always need a playmate! When I had one toddler, I felt the constant battle in my heart deciding if I should spend more playtime with him or accomplish other things. Both are really necessary and important, and mom guilt is totally a factor! And then, enter a sibling! Once my second got a little older, maybe a year or so, they started to find entertainment in each other, and that was a game-changer to give me a little breathing room!

2. THE TRANSITION FROM 1 TO 2 CAN BE HARD.

Of course, it’s different for every parent. For us, the change from having 0 to 1 baby was easier than the change from 1 to 2 babies. Having to deal with everything newborn-related while also caring for a very young toddler in the house meant that my husband and I were teaming up shoulder to shoulder like we never had before. Even the transition from 2 to 3 kids was an easier adjustment for us. All this to say, it is different for every parent, but if you’re making the change from 1 child to 2 children, it might take a new level of energy from both partners for a while, but it gets easier and more natural as time goes on!

3. BROTHERS SHARE THE SWEETEST BOND.

When I was pregnant with my second, deep down, I sort of wanted a girl – our first was a boy, and in my head, it just made sense that having a girl would be the sweetest thing. And there is something truly special about having a baby girl, but what I didn’t understand at the time was how special it would be to have brothers and give my boys the gift of that special bond. My boys are best friends and the biggest playmates, and looking back now, I am so glad we had two boys who could become best friends!
