In-Home vs. In-Studio Newborn Portraits: Which Is Right for You?

When it comes to newborn portraits, there are two main options: in-home and in-studio sessions. Both offer beautiful results, but they each have their own feel. Let’s break it down so you can decide what’s best for you!

In-Home Newborn Portraits

Pros:

  • Comfort & Personal Touch: You’re in your own space, surrounded by the things you love. Your baby’s nursery, family moments, and cozy atmosphere are captured naturally.
  • Relaxed Environment: No need to pack up—everything is right at home, making it easier to stay calm and comfortable.

Cons:

  • Lighting Variability: With in-home sessions, we work with the natural light that’s available in your space. Each home has its own unique light—whether it’s sunlight streaming through a window or the soft shadows that create a cozy, intimate feel. This creates a more unpredictable outcome, although still beautiful, and has a higher change that we may need to postpone the session if it’s a particularly overcast day.

In-Studio Newborn Portraits

Pros:

  • Controlled Environment with Gorgeous Natural Light: The studio offers a stunning setting with natural light that is perfect for newborn portraits. The light can be perfectly controlled to create soft, dreamy images, making the photos feel both polished and intimate.
  • Convenience: With everything ready to go, there’s no need to worry about preparing your space or managing lighting.

Cons:

  • Traveling with Baby: Getting to the studio can be a little more effort, especially with a newborn, so it’s something to consider if you’re still adjusting to life at home.

Which Option Is Right for You?

If you’re after a cozy, personal session with your family, in-home might be the way to go—just make sure you have enough natural light! But if you’re looking for a polished, professionally lit portrait with lots of options and gorgeous natural light, in-studio could be your best fit. Either way, you’ll have beautiful memories to cherish!
